Weekend Update

Hi Everyone!

Hope everyone has had a great weekend! Just wanted to update everyone on some changes in Mom's treatment.

We are going to take a month off the chemo to get Mom feeling better and stronger. The hospital stay and this last round of chemo was a little difficult so the doctors think a month of is a good idea. So today is the first Monday off and they will run some more tests after the 4th monday of her time off. This way she will have some time to focus on her nutrition, physical therapy, and the newest addition - ACUPUNTURE!

I got the pleasure of taking Mom to her first acupuncturist on Friday morning! This woman specializes in people with cancer and taking some of the pain away... let's hope this does some magic!
I stayed with  Mom while the lady put all the needles in her body. Mom couldn't even feel them! She also was able to nap/relax while the needles were doing their thang :) She is going to start seeing this acupuncturist twice a week for a couple months in hopes to relieve some of the pain she is experiencing. I did take a picture but you cant see the needles in sticking out of her arms and head so its just a picture of her laying on a table- not too blog-worthy.

I came home for the weekend to spend time with the family and also celebrate one of my best friend's birthdays! I took some pictures that I find VERY blog-worthy so enjoy! Luisa and I have been friends for 18 YEARS so she is one of Mom's "Fourth Daughters" and she happened to turn 28 on Friday! Here are some pictures from her bday celebration!

Luisa, Angela, Catalina, and Mary Joe- Sisters :)

For the rest of the weekend, Mom and I spent alot of time watching tennis, drinking lots of fluids :), and getting good sleep! I also got to see Geema's new apt at Freedom Pointe and even took her our for lunch and a Target shopping trip! She is slowly getting acclimated to her new surroundings... very slowly. Tonight, we will have a lovely family dinner at the Lumpkins, then its back up to the freezing Big Apple for me.

I will leave you with a dog pic as usual! Dad says he likes to "make eye contact" with the dogs before giving them a treat to show them who is the boss.... this was the only way he could get the eye contact he wanted. If you cant see, Dad has the treats in front of his eyes. HA!

Keep those prayers coming and we will update as soon as we know more! Thanks for the support! Y'all really are the best!

The sun finally came out...

Happy Friday! We made it through the week...yay!! This has been a rainy, cold, icky week in the ATL. I really didn't think we would ever see the sun again. But today it came out and it's cold but gorgeous!

Mom had a week kinda like the weather.

Monday was chemo day. It was the last one of this round so she was pretty beat at the end of it.

Tuesday we had a lymphedema massage appointment at Turning Point, the cancer wellness center. This place is amazing! They are a non-profit facility that takes all kinds of patients with breast cancer and on staff they have nutritionists, massage therapists, and counselors. Since Tuesday was the first day after chemo mom was very wobbly and tired. So as soon as we got into the massage room she fell asleep (shocking I know). So the massage lady and I chatted the whole time about weddings and such while mom was taking a nice little nap.

Wednesday was another lazy day filled with many naps. Also Geema arrived from NYC. For those of you who don't know Geema (mom's mom) is moving to Atlanta from Brooklyn. As she says "I'm now a Georgia Peach". Geema is staying with mom and dad for a few days until she stuff arrives from NYC. Everyone please say an extra prayer for Kev over the next few days :)

Thursday we had a chance to see Geema's new apartment and it's great! We are going to have such a fun time decorating it. She's staying at an assisted living facility by our office in Roswell. Mom didn't come because she was tired but Caitlyn, dad and I went. Geema met some of her new neigbors so that was nice. Her direct neighbor's name is Hugh and she asked the guy showing us around if he was single! I think she's going to be just fine there.

Friday brings another set of appointment at Turning Point. This time it's the nutrionist and councelor. Then more naps and rest.

The weekend brings relief from all the appointments. Luckily next week is a non-chemo week so hopefully mom will begin too feel stronger and better.

We don't yet know the next steps in treatment. I think there is one more round of chemo to do and then probably another scan. After that we don't yet know.

Love to everyone! Have a great weekend!!

xoxo

First post 2013

Happy 2013 everyone!! I hope everyone had a wonderful new year! I made a new years resolution to blog more frequently :)

The first part of the year will be more of the same for us. We are back on the chemo cafe train for a few more months. The appts have switched to Monday's so it's a great way to start off the week! Mom's been feeling just so so. She has been very wobbly and unsteady on here feet from the Cape episode. So no driving or heavy activity! It's a mental fight too so keeping moms spirits up are main focus.

We found a cancer wellness center that mom has gone to a few times. They have everything from nutritionists to therapists and everything in between. We've go to get mom eating foods that will help make her feel stronger. As you can imagine its been difficult for mom to kick her diet soda habit. There are lots of events this year (namely my wedding:) ) so we need mom as strong as possible!!

Again we cannot thank everyone for the notes, letters, prayers, cards, flowers, etc over the last 4 months! It's so unbelievable the support you all have shown.

Xoxoxo
